Released on the twenty-year anniversary of one of sports most iconic, and one of sports media’s most exploitative moments, LOST [in translation] re-focuses the lens on Allen Iverson’s infamous ‘practice rant’ in an effort to correct a misrepresentation that has persisted for more than two decades. 

From the moment Allen Iverson's May 7, 2002 press conference ended, its real meaning was obscured and trivialized. Media coverage focused on Iverson's repeated use of the word "practice," ignoring the fact that Iverson also repeated some variation of the word "lost" or "lose" just as often. Given two very different options, media coverage of the press conference chose to present Iverson's pain and frustration as comic relief, more "evidence" of Iverson as an "anti-Jordan." 

Artist Vincent Valdez' highly detailed, multi-layered images are a "visual testimony about a struggle for transformation, hope, love and survival in twenty-first century America." Paring Valdez' s drawings with the full transcript of the May 7, 2002 press conference, LOST [in translation] recenters the narrative around this event to focus on the issues of loss, the limitations of sport, and the universal human struggle.
